Video Profile Evaluation

When choosing what to do as my video profile I thought about myself and what makes me unique and what is close to my heart. I choose to do my video profile about how Poland and its film industry is influenced by its history and how all that has influenced my understanding of how I would like to make films in a future career in the film and television industry. As a British born Pole I can see Poland somewhat as an outsider, which helps me be more analytical and critical of what goes on in the country, which enables me to also look at the films made their in a different way.

When I making this video, I had decided early on that the music I will use for the background will be, ‘Farewell to the Fatherland’, by Michał Kleofas Ogiński, which reflects how much Polish people during its years under occupation longed for a free and independant Poland and it represents Poles who left due to historical events. The clips I used in it were all symbolic of the Polish success. The first clip from, Ashes and Diamonds (Popioł i Diament) by Andrzej Wajda, shows how happy the Poles were when the Second World War had ended. The film itself is about a Home Army (Armia Krajowa) soldier and how he realised they will have to eradicate the Polish Communists, who want to hand over Poland to the Soviet Communists. The other two clips are from, Pirates of the Caribbean, and, Saving Private Ryan. Both of which have Polish contributions in the making of them.

Through this video I would like to show that Poland, though a small country in Europe, is a very strong and powerful country, when its comes to its film industry, most Polish filmmakers are now more influencing in the European Film Industry and Hollywood. I hope that my video helps show how Polish people can contribute to the worldwide industry.

I think that if I was to improve the video, I would do all the parts that I appear in each in a different location, and use more short clips rather than the longer ones. I would also try to get a more analytical approach to it and with more of my own opinion.

Overall I think my video gives a general overview of what Polish people have gone through to help contribute to the film history of Hollywood and Britain.

How did you fulfil your role? Give examples to justify your score.

I think I fulfilled my role as I had to make it on my own and though it took time to complete I think overall it looks better than it would have.

How well do you think your animation answered the creative brief?

1 2 3 4 5
What aspects of the brief did you manage to fulfil? Give examples.

There may not be a lot of animation in it but I fulfilled the brief to make an E4 ident.

What areas of the project didn’t work well? In future what you differently?

The original idea to add animate the mouths of the characters. I would have done something a bit more original and funky.

What areas of the project are you most proud of?

The way I edited it, along with the way the E4 logo was cropping up every so often.
